The LI-1 Peregrine was an interceptor made by the Langley Aircraft Co. (Now known as Lime Air) to fufill the need of a high speed interceptor with exportable capabilities in 1942. Often flown over Nazi Germany, the interceptor played a key role in stopping large scale bombings. Its contra-rotating prop, an innovation at the time, was the key to its main source of speed. Its extra wing engines could be turned off when not being used which saved on fuel. The engines on the wings were mainly used for redundancy. If the main prop(s) were damaged, the extra engines assured a safe landing.
