The Brünhild was first observed as the supreme flagship of the Imperial Navy's expeditionary fleet at the Battle of Astarte in 796 UC. Commanding a fleet of 20,000 ships, the Brünhild led the destruction of the Free Planets Alliance's 4th Fleet and 6th Fleet before being forced into a stalemate with the 2nd Fleet under the temporary command of Commodore Yang Wen-li.
The Brünhild's design was unique amongst all observed Imperial ships. With a gleaming white hull, virtually the entire dorsal hull leading toward the ship's propulsion systems was a single large transparency, under which various parts of the ship's structure could be observed. It was also unique amongst Imperial ships in that there are no obvious energy weapon emplacements visible on its hull. Rather, all of its observed energy weapons systems fired from beneath (and through) the transparency on the dorsal side. Nine launch bays for Walküre fighters were arranged on the dorsal hull.
