Lautern Skyly J2 "Teacher" Spec.

9,422 MisterMasada  9.0 years ago

*IMPORTANT* The cockpit is defunct, use camera 01/01 if you want cockpit view

This is the Skyly J2 from the film and light novel series, "The Sky Crawlers". The Skyly J2 is an air superiority fighter manufactured by the Lautern Corporation. This plane is only given to very skilled aces within Lautern's roster and this particular one is piloted by Lautern's best pilot known only as the "Teacher".

The plane itself seems to be based primarily off of the North American
P-51 Mustang, that said it seems to take some inspiration from other planes such as the Mikoyan Mig-3, and the carrier-borne variant of the Spitfire.

Notable differences between this aircraft and the one from the film
-There is no black panther livery
-There are no Lautern roundels
-The landing gear is different due to how mass works
-It's missing the turbocharger
-The rear-most fuselage is different due to game mechanics

I hope you enjoy this aircraft, please remember to comment suggestions, criticisms, and/or requests.

@DragonAerotech by the way did you know how you can make the prices in challenges? i think about a sky crawlers challenge (in hope of more someaka on the site and hopefully someone who realizes that you can make out the size of the rostock bombers by coparing them with the standard lautern hevy fighters that are based of me bf 110).

@Irobert55 Ahh I see, you just want her to have a brutal sounding name, no harm there. I'm having deja vu in regards to this conversation of "naming it whatever you want!" LOL

@Irobert55 On the other hand we could go a lil more simple and go with the "Blue-Green Dragon," depending on what color the bombers appeared in the show, it's been a long time since I saw it, one word for which is "Soryu." Don't get me started on Japanese colors in regards to greenish-blue. It's as bad as people insisting on having a separate word for every bloody shade of color in English. You can't just call it "light purple" its "lavender," for example. An off-white can be called Ivory, Taupe, light tan, etc. etc. Hopefully Germans have retained some semblance of sanity with their words for colors! lol

@Irobert55 So basically "Mountain of Death, "Shi no Yama?" Shino as a single word in Japanese is a pottery glazing technique. lol "Shiro" is white. You could also interpret "Shi no Yama" as "Mountain of Four," which might make the crews a bit less than enthusiastic as 4 is considered an ill omen. The characters for Shi as in the number and Shi as in death are different but the Japanese do like to make plays on words. ;)

@DragonAerotech shinoyama would work but the other two names arent fit. the reason for this is that every combat plane from rostock is named with a japanese s name: sanka, seiei, suiga, someaka.

@Irobert55 Shinigami is so overused though, how about Shiroyama (White mountain, they were triangular AND big,) Tsubasa (Wing), Tsubasa no Shi (Winged Death), Tsurugi (An archaic Japanese double edged straight bladed sword,) etc.? Granted "Ts-" in Romaji doesn't come across quite as an ordinary "S" sound but since you don't know it's name it sort of gains that double meaning. It's an unknown and therefore doesn't quite conform with the standard and yet it does at the same time. ^_~

@MisterMasada How I missed your' response so long ago, I have no idea, but yes I remember that much about the story line. (No, I've not reviewed it, that ending sucked too hardcore!) I would very much like to read the novels now though, given what you stated about them. Typically I like to watch the movie first and then read the novel anyway. The movie gives you some visuals to utilize while the book fleshes out the parts that were missing in the movie. Although I'll never view/read another work of JK Rowling, I made that error once upon a time, read the book and then viewed the film. It felt like someone had put the book on fast forward and skipped over all the best parts just to show the action scenes! lol

@MisterMasada did the story mention the name of the giant flying wing bombers from rostock? i want to make a sky crawlers challenge (partialy in the hope that the challenge will give out more someaka replicas. i like this plane) and with this information i would have some help in planning when the name of the plane isnt even in the novels then i will refer tho the giants as shinigami because its in line with all rostock attack planes (they all have japanese names with an s as the first letter).

@DragonAerotech the main objetktive of this war with planes is that the world is in peace in the story but the only way to preserve the peace is by showing the peoples whats the alternative. rostock and lautern are comncerns not countrys. heck the full name of rostock is rostock iron works.

in the movie you never see the teacher on the ground. with this fact the landing gears are the last things that you can fail.

@DragonAerotech Well, that feeling that the meaningless conflict gave you was intentional, the Novels are better because they continue the story. The film only covers the first novel which is another reason for the "wrist cut" ending. I also recommend the Sky Crawlers game if you own a Wii, it can be found for quite cheap used in video game stores, it was made by Project Aces.

@MisterMasada I'll give you that, it had cool planes, but the unaging children fostered to a certain age, trained and thrown into combat for the sake of competing regions and governments for the sake of prestige vs actual war - and for it to be treated as a sport by the public in both their accomplishments and deaths, it was just all wrong. Then for the protagonist to finally take the chill off of his icy CO to a full out heat - only for him to be killed by "The Teacher," the very next thing ... it was just a slash wrist ending all around. >.< I'll have to try to source the translations of the novels - maybe they are better.

@DragonAerotech Eh, I thought it was an OK if a bit weird take on a war drama, apparently the novels were much better, but alas, they aren't in English anywhere. At least it had cool planes.

@MisterMasada I detested that film, the story line made you really feel for the plight of these engineered soldiers - and the ending sucked. lol

@LaggAttack This plane would, in reality, have several superchargers, and is based around the P-51 Mustang as opposed to the Ta-152. It would also seem that the AI is actually capable of flying the Skyly, but it can't fly the Suiga.

Now whats the diffetence to the suiga?
