Within the skies of Vietnam in 1967, It became apparent that there was a need for an aircraft that could deliver a huge load to provide close air support for ground troops. The need was met with little delay due to it's simple design, coming into service within 1974. Being deployed to Vietnam to cover the retreating Americans. Several were lost to ground fire and failures, however due to design. It was cheap, easy to manufacture and took shorter to train in.
