MiG-21UM "Mongol-B"
MiG-21UM "Mongol-B"
There are quite a few MiG-21's on SP... most of them "Fishbeds", not too many "Mongols". So why not do a 2-seater/trainer this time?
The MiG-21 itself is very well known to all, and needs little or no introduction -if interested, you can always check out HistoryNet.
The MiG-21UM "Mongol-B" (1968), was a two-seat trainer version of the MiG-21MF -a "modernized" MiG-21 with upgraded radar, R13-300 turbojet, and four instead of two underwing hardpoints.
Some features
• Realistic weight & fuel
• Custom landing gear and air brakes (AG1). Like on the real ’21, the rear air brake is locked when carrying an external fuel tank on the centerline hardpoint
• Movable nose cone
• Automatic additional intake vents at the nose
• MiG-ish half-cockpit, just to have a nice cockpit viewpoint rather than for actual functionality.
• External PTB-490 fuel tank (can be dropped with AG2) to make the plane’s range just a bit less terrible
• Automatic changeover (speed-related) from nosewheel steering to rudder
• Auto-afterburner @ 95% throttle. Don’t use it too much though, or you’ll run out of fuel in a matter of minutes.
Controls
- AG1 : air brakes
- AG2 : drop fuel tank
- AG3 : brake chute
- AG8 : toggle lights
Armament
The single-seater MF was equipped with a GSh-23 autocannon, but this was omitted on the UM trainer version. The UM could be equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun in a centerline belly pod, but the weapon was so ineffective that this was almost never done.
This build depicts a trainer version, but let's give it some punch so that at least there's some extra fun to be had... it is, after all, a MiG-21. The plane has four underwing hardpoints, and is equipped with four R60 (AA-8 "Aphid") short-range IR homers, and two K-55 (AA-1 "Alkali") missiles.
HAVE FUN…

Great work!!
Could you make a mobile version if not no worries :)
I like two seater fighter jets a lot (sometimes better than some single seaters) especially the F-16D
the background is very warthunder
@ollielebananiaCFSP meh... mostly cuz I can't be bothered. I usually don't look at the plane's belly when flying it.
you are so good at building, but why does the bottom of your wings (the transition between the wing and the control surface) always looks so bad ?
@hRmm yeah I know -but don't blame me... if SP would switch to using textures, we wouldn't have to spend 90% of the part count on silly details ;)
always 1500+ parts to torture my ipad lol
@SimplyPlain no problem! I liked it very much!!
