Another version of the JA-3.

This time, the maritime patrol variant - the JA-3b Hvalrus (Walrus in Norwegian).

This kite was intended to carry out marine patrols over the North Sea, and the extremely long coastal areas of Norway.

Based on the JA-3c strike fighter, she retains the license built Daimler-Benz DB-601 engines and MK 108 30 mm cannon, along with two of the original 4 .303 Brownings.

The bomb bay is also retained and can house smaller ordinance, such as light air drop mines, bombs, torpedoes and other assorted nasties - including inflatable life rafts and ASR equipment.

Another major difference from the "c" variant is the inclusion of a domestically developed Kongsberg Modell "G" surface search radar - which allows for the detection of surface objects and, in good conditions, shallow submerged objects. The radome is visible in the nose and the detection aerials are mounted on the rear fuselage.

This makes her a perfect surface vessel hunter and part time sub hunter. She is therefore armed with three torpedoes in the bomb bay.

To fulfill this role, extra range was required. Luckily the wing hard points were "wet" already on the "c" variant.

The crew remains unchanged at three - Pilot, gunner / radio operator and Navigator / radar operator. This version dispenses with the matpakke and osthøvel.

Ok, wee issue here; the upoer torpedoes seem a wee bit faulty; they detonate on launch.
Best delete them, old chap. Keep the lowest one.
