Description
After the YF-16 won the Lightweight Fighter Program competition, the US Air Force ordered 8 Full-Scale Development (FSD) aircraft to further develop its technologies, of which 6 were single-seater A-models and 2 were dual-seater B-models.
This was the sixth one of these FSD planes, with this one being the last A-Variant. Its fatter nose is due to the AN/APG-65 radar housed inside, which would be later used for the F/A-18 Hornet. This plane would also be modified for the Advanced Fighter Technology Integration (AFTI) program.
It is here equipped with 2 AIM-9 Sidewinders.
