Summary
Designed as a light bushplane, the CM-216 found itself in high demand as a firefighting aircraft, especially as an Airborne Command Platform. Its reasonable speed and agility combined with long endurance made it a mainstay with Canadian and American Forestry agencies for over 55 years as a result of several upgrade packages.
Features
Custom landing gear.
- The aircraft CAN operate from unprepared airstrips, but care should be taken to avoid rough impacts as the rear wheels are especially susceptible to breaking and destroying the aircraft. Instances of thid have been noted in Low Physics mode especially.
Working slats. AG1 to deploy and retract.
- In Low Physics, these do not seem to be effective on takeoff until after V1, around 160mph. However they work well on landing and can be used to give the aircraft a tighter turning circle.
Variants
Although unpublished, the Leeman Canada OV-216 is being planned for military service. It will have a more realistic looking cockpit and possibly a change to its landing gear.
Predicted entry into service: 30-1-18.
