This US dive bomber was designed and built after the SB2C and SB3L weree failures in the eyes of the navy.
HISTORY
When the navy saw the failure of the SB2C and SB3L the navy went to Douglas, the manufacturer of the famous SBD dauntless. Douglass delivered a plane that was fast, powerful, and heavily armed. The SB4D has only one 1800Lb bomb in the bomb bay but can carry, two internal and two external AN-6, 500Lbs bombs, one MK-10 Torpedo, or one MK-18 torpedo. The Bomber has two wing mounted 50cals in the front, and rear mounted 50cals.
