F-27B Strike Hooker

BACKSTORY- Following the creation of the F-27 Hooker in 1986 for the USNAF, the United States Air Force decided to purchase 20 F-27s in early 1990. However, the design was too unstable and too limited in ground-attack roles. The USAF contracted Mcdonnell Douglas to upgrade the F-27 using parts and design elements from the F-15. A new, more effective stealth coating was used on the F-27B, and the engines were modified slightly to reduce radar signature. The internal fuel tanks were increased in volume, and vertical stabilizers were added. The radar signature would have been drastically increased, but the improved stealth coating reduced the effects. The entire aircraft is mechanically identical to the original, except for the tail and lack of tailhook. The parts interchangeability greatly reduced costs as well. Along with its sister, the F-27 Hooker, the F-27B has made a great impact on The United American Federation, and has been shipped around the world to our allies.
