For Decembermin's 747 livery challenge.

Finally Done!!

Nothing much to say really, but I quite enjoyed making this. It's much more satisfying now, with me discovering how to use fuselage slicing to make liveries. On with the description!
(singapore patriotism suddenly kicks in)

About the Singapore Airlines 747-400

In the 1980s, Singapore Airlines started operating the Boeing 747-400, allowing it to finally fly non-stop flights from Singapore to London.

The previous 747s in SIA, the 747-300s, were named "Big Top". As the -400 had a larger upper deck than its older variant, SIA christened it "Megatop". The name was placed on all SIA 747-400s until about 2003, when the new CEO of SIA redesigned the livery to remove names from all aircraft and instead make the "Singapore Airlines" name bigger.

The redesigned SIA livery.

The 747s flew until 2012, when they made their last flights with flight numbers 747 and 748.

All of SIA's intact 747s were sold off to other airlines.

Rotate: Singapore Airlines Flight 286

On 12 March 2003, SQ286 started its takeoff roll on Runway 23L at Auckland Airport. At 132 knots/ 244km/h, the first officer called out rotate, and the captain pulled the plane up. However, the plane did not lift off, and pitched all the way back until the plane's tail hit the runway. The tail scraped on the runway for about 500 meters before finally taking off, causing some serious damage.

The warning for an Auxillary Power Unit (APU) fire then sounded, prompting the crew to return to the airport and make an emergency landing. Everyone (obviously) survived, and the plane was repaired.

The damage caused to the tail.

Apparently, the first officer miscalculated the takeoff weight of the plane by about 100 tons, causing him to assume a takeoff speed that was lower than the actual one. The captain was also inexperienced on the 747-400, as he had recently transferred from another aircraft type. These, along with several other factors, caused the captain to try to take off at too low a speed, making the plane suffer a tailstrike.

Luckily, the aircraft did not stall or have any engine failures, or else it would actually have crashed.

Fun fact: After the tailstrike incident, this 747 was nicknamed 'Scrape My Tail' by SIA crews due to it's ironic registration of 9V-SMT. The stuff you find on the internet..

    Great build,
    And I have one request:
Can you make an Eva air A332 registered B-16310.

    @RepublicOfCursedPlanes
    This is an amazing livery!
    But I have one request:
Could you make Singapore Airline's "Tropical/Rainbow" livery? It was a promotional livery intended to promote latest cabin products, and service offers across the airline. The livery was painted on two 747-400s, in which one of those aircrafts would be involved in Singapore Airlines Flight 006 (A B-747-412, registered '9V-SPK').
