XB-224

326k WinsWings  1.2 years ago

XB-224* is an experimental flying wing bomber developed for the United States Army Air Force almost at the end of the 2nd World War. After the successful flight test of a small flying wing aircraft, Northrop N-9M, a contract was signed for designing and building a larger twin-engined flying-wing bomber with WIn's Wings Design Bureau WWDB in February 1945. It has two contra-rotating propellors (like those found in modern-day Russian Tu-95 Bombers). A wing-body blended design makes the plane more fuel-efficient, and thus, it can get more range. This was never in production, but it paved the way for the technological advancement of modern-day B2 bombers.

(*Fictional)

Landing:

Keep the Landing speed, 180-200 mph. Holding down the brakes will activate the reverse engine. Use TRIM if necessary.

Top Speed - 440 mph.

.

Pratt & Whitney R-4360-28 cylinder Double Wasp Major engine, with 6-bladed contra-rotating props

Dear All, IF you see an incomplete build in the editor, it is a glitch. You can play directly without doing anything, Or you can turn on the visibility icon (the eye icon) if you want to see the parts in the designer mode.

Wonderful werk. Has a weird glitch where it's incomplete in the editor but normal when playing. (EDIT: it was just the parts visibility inverter turned on, maybe left on by accident)
    .
I also love how this thing could have plausibly existed back then as yet another Northrop prototype pre-B2 Spirit.

@WinsWings I agree, but the cockpit design reminds me of the B-2 spirit, which might also contribute to lower RCS if not for the props. It was also the Germans who also designed 2 concepts for flying wings if i recall correctly

Also would it be cool if I made an experimental P-38 with turbojets?

@SpeedhunterFlying wing design is not a new thing. Check out the Northrop YB-35 which flew in 1949 and develop during the WW2
