The Bristol Beaufighter was a fighter aircraft operated by the Royal Air Force during World War II. It was developed as a derivative of the torpedo bomber Beaufort.
It was originally developed as a twin-engine heavy fighter capable of long-range flight. The first prototype made its first flight in 1939. Its performance was not satisfactory for a fighter. However, because of its ample payload, it was used in a variety of applications, such as a night fighter with radar, a fighter-bomber with torpedoes, and so on.
