Hey everyone, Zerø here. And in this SimplePlanes post, I've made a fictional helicopter.

I saw an interesting challenge, so I decided to participate.

This aircraft is inspired by the Mil Mi-24 Hind. Though if I'm being honest, it looks more like an AH-1.

Introduction:

The Rhithiol R-22A "Hyena" is a low cost, 5 bladed main rotor, tandem two seated, anti-tank helicopter designed by the Rhithiol Rotorcraft Company. It was also nicknamed by the pilots and gunners as "Dolphin", due to how the helicopter is designed. Specifically meant to be low cost, the design was made as simple as possible, while being as effective as possible. It is by far the most "successful" helicopter Rhithiol has ever made.

History:

The year is 1966. Rhithiol, now lacking customers are short funded, and can only sustain themselves for no longer than 8 years. In order to keep the company alive, they needed a way to somehow attract customers. Rhithiol decided to take a risky approach.

In early 1967, Rhithiol A. Morgan designed a rotorcraft that had the potential to save the company. Seeing as the potential of a war is growing day by day, he decided to propose the design to the Union Army, hoping that they would approve of the design and maybe give them extra funds to test them. Even though Rhithiol was a civilian rotorcraft company, they had experience working on a rotorcraft for the military. The Union accepted the proposal, and gave funds to test how effective the design of the aircraft is.

In June 3rd 1971, the HM-22 (A prototype designation for the Rh-22) made it's maiden flight. The prototype revealed some flaws towards the design, though they were minor. In November 1971, the rotorcraft was accepted into mass production. A total of 275 units were ordered, and delivered. It was by far the most success Rhithiol has ever had with the military.

Loadout:

  • 1x MG32 Autocannon
A fixed twin barreled, 30mm High Explosive autocannon, capable of reaching 360 rounds per minute.

  • 8x ATM-23A Small Diameter Anti Tank Missile
A small diameter anti tank missile, designed to be a low cost alternative for the AGM-114 Hellfire, and was designed specifically for the Rh-22.

  • 2x RP-12/A Rocket Pods
A 7 tube rocket launcher fitted with Hydra 70 rockets, capable of ripple firing.

As you can see, I have been fascinated by helicopters recently. Will I make planes again? Maybe. But for now, I don't think I will. It's because I still enjoy making helicopters.

Other than that, have fun, and Fly Safe.
