The Gecko is an armored personnel carrier (APC) designed by Knight Industry in the 1970s. It was introduced in response to the growing demand for a modern APC across the Third Continent. Designated 2A72 in the EPEI Index, the Gecko was the first vehicle in its family line.
However, combat experience revealed several flaws, prompting the development of improved variants, such as the Salamander and its eastern counterpart, the TRB-70. Despite its shortcomings, Gecko production surged in 1976, with a total of 56,000 units manufactured.
One of the Gecko’s key strengths was its modularity. Knight Industry allowed operators to modify their vehicles to meet specific needs, making it one of the most versatile and cost-effective APCs of its era.
