In 1973, Malaysian government placed 20 orders for a Joegalan Tipe 1 armoured cars for the Malaysian Army. The vehicles were recieved starting in 1975, with the last vehicle recieved in 1982.

On 2013, Joegalan Tipe 1 armoured cars were deployed following the 2013 Lahad Datu standoff. The vehicle saw action and it became a success for Malaysian Army.
