The aircraft cruiser Minsk is the second ship of the Soviet Navy's Type 1143 heavy aircraft cruiser. It is the second generation of aircraft carriers developed by the Soviet Navy and the first class to carry fixed-wing carrier-based aircraft, as well as the first class in the world to carry vertical/short take-off and landing fighters.

Minsk aircraft cruiser in addition to carrying a ship-borne closed, is also equipped with anti-ship missiles, air defense, anti-submarine, powerful firepower strike capability of ship-borne weapons, single warship combat power strong, less dependence on the escort ships, main mission is to perform formation anti-submarine and in the air, air task, as a fleet command ships, implementation of aerial reconnaissance and warning, Attack enemy aircraft carrier formations and surface ships, and provide anti-ship missile supervision attack, relay guidance or target indication for other surface ships and submarines, support amphibious operations, and carry out vertical landing, etc.

The aircraft cruiser Minsk, named after the capital of Belarus Minsk, started construction at Nikolayev Shipyard on December 28, 1972, was launched on September 30, 1975 and commissioned on September 27, 1978. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the ship was inherited by Russia, but due to the lack of economic strength of Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was decommissioned on May 30, 1992.
