M983 tractor is mainly used to tow MIM-104 Patriot air defense missile system. It can also be used for rescue and recovery of Stryker's troops, or for towing other trailers. The earlier model was equipped with a 30-kilowatt generator and a crane at the rear to tow the MGM-31 Pershing missile launcher. M983A2/A4 light equipment transport truck is mainly used for hauling transportation engineering and construction equipment.
