The CRN Prince Albert was a light cruiser commissioned during 1942 at Naval Port Richey. Built to handle harsh weathers and capable of withstanding very heavy damage and still able to float and be steerable.
Her hull was laid down during 1939 after the government ordered a cruiser that is faster, tougher, and has more firepower than its predecessor, the CRN Admiral John R. Lewis.
During the year 1944, she encountered the heavy battlecruiser YNS Hurshkov and engaged it at long range in the Lorvik Sea. She sustained multiple hits from the Hurshkov's 340mm cannons yet she remained floating and managed to sink the Hurshkov. It returned to Naval Port Lewis and was grounded for repairs for months before going back into action.
There were around 21 Prince Albert-class light cruisers built ranging from 1942-1946.
