Lavochkin La-9
to preface the description:
I joked on a few discord servers as to how I was making a north korean livery for this plane in order to be less controversial. I may have been joking there but I wish to be clear: While what is going on in Ukraine is horrible regardless of which side you are on, a post on simpleplanes of a soviet ww2 era prop fighter is not the place to concern ourselves with the conflict, and me making a soviet aircraft does not reflect my political stance with this war. My thoughts are with the ukrainian people and I wish for their suffering to see its end soon.
I'm sorry to be making this message, but imo it has to be said.
Lavochkin La-9
The Lavochkin La-9 (NATO reporting name Fritz) was a Soviet fighter aircraft produced shortly after World War II. It was a piston engined aircraft produced at the start of the jet age. It was exported to china and north korea and was also operated by the likes of the romanian airforce.
Controls
- AG1: landing lights
- AG2: beacon lights
- AG3:
- AG4:
- AG5:
- AG6:
- AG7: engine ignition
- AG8: canopy
there are also two levers on the left side of the cockpit which control radiators. The radiators have no function but they look cool.

- InsertNameHere01, Jackrei: flight testing
- honourable mention to marcox43 for helping me massively with an auto prop pitch script, apologies that I didn't end up using it, but I will update the XML here if/when I get it to work properly
- the amazing people of the spcs server for keeping me motivated on the project, even when migraine occur and I thought it looked like dog poo
notes
- This aircraft is VR capable and mobile friendly, but does not feature advanced VR features and has not been fully tested in VR.
- Land softly and slowly, 3 point if you can. A lot of prop planes with wheels so far forward had massive problems with bouncing, which I have managed to accidentally recreate.
- some of you might complain of a climb rate lower than the climb rate depicted in war thunder, though I don't think the climb rate in war thunder is entirely accurate, so I have based it off information I could find online.
- there are currently no craft instructions due to my computer committing toasterbath every time I tried to upload it with instructions. I will keep trying

OMG SIEZURE PLANE CONFIRMED!!!111
@Croissant ;)
wher epilepsy plan
That would be amazing if you don’t mind notifying me if you figure it out, I totally understand the difficulty that trying to make an aircraft extremely realistic brings. Keep up the amazing work! @ZWLenning
@MRM19 yes I know what you're talking about - this is why I was trying to use the auto prop pitch script, because without it I have to drop the max rpm to 1500 (from an irl max of about 2600)
I'm still working on that script and will update the XML if I get it to work better and will tag you, if you like, when I get it done.
In the meantime take off with flaps up and don't pitch at all until you get above about 100mph/150kmh
@ZWLenning It’s a little hard to get off of the ground, and like you said in the description it is difficult to land just because of the landing gear setup… but it’s mostly just hard to get airborne and up to speed.
@MRM19 in what way difficult? i tried to make it sluggish at low speeds if thats what you mean?
Very nicely done… a little difficult to fly at slow speeds, but it makes up for it with the XML input for the rotators in the cockpit…
Ах да, борец за Родину, иди брр
@Deepdark i have added the default wings already. This is the version with default wings. they are just shrunk to zero so you can't see them.
also, this aircraft was made using a blueprint - its fairly well accurate I think. Assuming you mean the flight model is bad, it was known to have a low roll rate, and it will obviously be terrible at low speeds.
Maybe you need to bury some system default wings in the wings and rudder, this aircraft is too bulky compared to reality
@beenz it's the only North Korea X Soviet Russia image I could find lmaoo

jokes aside, very cool plane
sp users when the plane made 60 years ago is soviet (russian) (russia are bad)
@Kangy thanks for feedback, I think I did it for a mix of building convenience and inexperience with the new cockpits but I'll leave them up in future
Plane go brr
I cannot fly it atm but it looks awesome!
Take my spotlight and upvote (ps i suggest you leave flaps up for future builds, it makes things easier to fly)
