The B-44 "Ultrafortress" was developed by Boeing in 1951 as a cheaper alternative to the B-36 "Peacemaker". The plane was built and designed around a secret new type of bomb that could deliver a large amount of ordinance in one small package. However, extensive testing proved the new bomb to be very unreliable and the project was scrapped.
