Intermeshing Rotors Demonstrator

1,754 Lyra  5.8 years ago

With the coming of the new update, i finally managed to experiment with intermeshing rotors. Please note that I know absolutely nothing about building helicopters so lower your expectations, this model is only intended to be showcasing the intermeshing rotors technology and will not function properly. I haven't figured out how to succesfully apply yaw and roll to this concept, and the most common problem is that at one random point the two rotors are most likely going to collide, but that's why we got parachutes installed :) ...
If you know more than me about building helicopters (and i'm sure you do) you're welcome to make the right changes and tweaks in order to make it fly. Enjoy (?)!

@A5mod3us Okay, thanks for testing that out

@Lyra Okay, just tested it and same result. If you stay on the deck, the props will stay in sync, but as soon as you try to take off and maneuver they fall our of sync and collide with one another.

@Lyra I might mess around with that idea. I'm not sure how props interact with each other if they don't begin clipped through one another.

@A5mod3us Thank you, you perfectly understood the issue, I thought about XML modded props made for planes, they shouldn't be affected by the individuality of each engine's rpm, or are they?
Anyhow i don't really know how to mod on mac.

Yeah, unfortunately, unless you can find a way to tie the rotation of each rotor to one another so they are always at the same RPM and point of rotation in relationship to each other, this sort of rotorcraft is DOA. Real tandem rotor helicopters like this one have linked rotor shafts that prevent one rotor from outpacing the other. Great attempt, though. I dig the concept.

@SubXTribe Yeah, That's one of the main issues i've encountered, see my reply to Clawsome to know why. But thanks for the effort :)

@Lyra Sure i would but, if it rolled to hard the Right propeller will Explode , i will try to fix the Problem before uploading it

@Clawsome i've understood that the rotors spin autonomously depending on the drag they're subject to, when rolling or yawing, one of the two inevitably gets out of phase and collides with the other one, so that's the main issue. Haven't found a valid fix, but you're welcome to try. Also, if you manage to create a working model please post it here.

So I’ve been trying to make my own, but one of the props randomly explodes. Have you found a fix for that?
