Here is a bit of history
The Lockheed L-133 Starjet was an Jet fighter that was designed by Kelly Johnson In 1940, it would have been the US’s first jet fighter had the US military not canceled funding to the L-1000 Jet Engine Project (US Axial-Flow jet engine). Had this aircraft been fully developed, the starjet would have been able to break the sound barrier. This was due to several design features including its triangular-airframe design, Blended wing-fuelsaloge, and most importantly, an Afterburner.
