“How still lies the bay
in the light western airs
which blow from the crimson horizon.
Once more we tack home
With a dry empty load
Saving gas with the breezes so fair”
- Stan Rogers, Make and Break Harbor

This craft, once a symbol of the thriving fishing industries in the northern US and Canada, is now a symbol of the new starvation of work for the men and women who’s lifestyle of old-style fishing is now void in the years following the Second World War. As new fishing industries entered foreign markets from all over the world, once simple local harbors became dry and baron, with the fishermen of yesterday being left poor in their old methods, or somewhat well off working for the companies contracting in their own harbors.

This boat always reminded me of the song I quoted at the beginning. It’s a song about just what I described in my last paragraph.

This build was a bit of a side project to a bigger build I’m making. The boat is modeled off a replica/decoration fishing boat from Maine that I found in a thrift store and I figured it would be a fun mini project. I don’t know the name of the actual craft, so I gave it my own.

Let me know if you enjoy!
