SS-ORION*M1- LeBeau Space Industries
Hello everybody, check the new and improved Version of the ORION -thnx
By the way, it is up to you to improve the model and provide it with more fuel to fly higher, etc. Have fun!
The ORION-M1 unit was completed for atmosphere tests.
- General:
- unfortunately the physics model of Simpleplanes is limited and it does not offer flights in space, resp. Orbit.
- In addition, the fuel can not be separated in stages (fuselage parts)! this means that the same amount of fuel is available to all stages, a separate stage ignition does not take place after the fuel of the stage is used up. (yes, it is not KSP...)
The following mission maneuvers are taken from the Official LeBeau Officer's Astronaut Handbook.
TEST Mission 'ORION M1' - Atmospheric Flight:
- Liftoff / countdown sequence
- Throttle FULL On 100%
- Initiate Stage 1: press '1'
- wait 2-5seconds (not more than 5 seconds ...) and press '6' to release clamp.
- Stage 1 is now Liftoff, quantity of fuel is limited to atmospheric (stratosphere to about 50 / 60km) flights. This means that from about 35-40% of the remaining fuel quantity Stage 2 can be activated.
Decoupling Stage 1
wait until fuel quantity is at approx. 35%
Throttle FULL Off 0% - Break and close Stage 1 Press '1' (deacivate)activate now stage 2 with key '2'. (assure you that the severed level 1 is far enough away so that no collision arises)
- Stage1 is now disconnected and you are flying only with Stage 2.
look that you have an angle of about 15-30'grad.
Note about Stage 2:
But Fly the Upperstage 2 is not easy and is only it was designed only for flights in orbit, so do not expect acrobatic performance. Stage 2 flies in the atmosphere as well as a washing machine ...
Decoupling Stage 2
Retain angle of approx. 15-30'grad. Fuel will be ready in a few seconds at about 40-50km.
wait until fuel is ready, ignite stage 3, activate with key '3'.
Stage 2 is now separated, you now flatten with the ORION capsule.
Flight maneuvers in atmosphere: we have attached parachutes to the Stage2. these are there to protect the kasel from possible collisions.
- Alternatively, key '7' can be pressed to open the stage2 parachutes.
Alternatively, decouple without Stage 2: you can fly with the ORION as far as possible until the fuel runs out, then simply press the '3' button and decouple the ORION capsule. about 2500-2000 meters above sea then press button '4' and brake parachutes open.
bring your team of ORION safely home!
Adjust with the help of the thruster. wait that is enough distance between Stage 2 and the space capsule.
wait for the enough distance between Stage 2 and the space capsule and activate parachutes with key '4' at about 2000 meters above sea level !
Wait for the rescue team of the Navy to pick you up!
- Welcome back Sir' ! you have just successfully completed the first NASA Test Mission of the ORION!

@RaendyLeBeau Are you the same randy who is making the mod for Kerbal Space Program?
Raendy,I suggest that you make an Orion with boosters that would be cool 🚀🛰
Ok Thx
@WaspWaspWasp Hi Wasp, thnx you are welcome! pls. check out the new Version : ORION M5 - it's more improved.
