The NI-21 was a naval interceptor designed by the Blanquian Aerospace Firm, as well as the first Blanquian carrier-borne craft to break the sound barrier. Following the bloody Blanquo-Bigtopian War of 1966, the People's Navy called for light, fast, and inexpensive interceptors to provide a defense against fast-moving bombers; the BAF responded and completed a prototype within ten weeks. The NI-21 performed adequately in combat (with a kill to loss ratio of 2.71 to 1,) and was well-liked by pilots and maintenance crew for its simplicity, though it was often the subject of complaints regarding its lateral instability (earning the nickname "Wobbly.")
