SAAB B17 A
[About SAAB B17 A]
Wikipedia
The SAAB B17 A was a reconnaissance bomber developed in Sweden. It was the first Swedish all-metal aircraft.
In 1938, the Swedish Air Force requested a new reconnaissance aircraft to replace the previous Fokker C.V. ASJA (AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstädernas Aeroplanavdelning) started development in response. The name of the development at that time was L10. ASJA was then integrated with SAAB, and the reconnaissance aircraft under development continued to be developed by SAAB as the B17. The aircraft was designed to be used as both a reconnaissance aircraft and a bomber, and the prototype made its first flight on May 18, 1940.
The design was unique. It carried two passengers and had a large canopy. The aft seat was fitted with a gun turret. It was equipped with a small bomb tank under the cockpit. The wings were thick and robust to enable dive bombing. The most distinctive feature was the main landing gear, which had large covers covering the entire landing gear. By lowering the main landing gear, it increased aerodynamic drag and could also be used as dive brakes.
Due to difficulties in engine supply, there were three subtypes of the B17, from A to C, with different engine types; the A type was powered by a copy of Pratt & Whitney's R-1830 Twin Wasp engine. Other types included the S17BS with floats and the S17BL with skis.
A total of 326 B17s were produced, including prototypes. However, the wave of jet aircraft led to a very short period of operation. The longest service period was in Ethiopia, where it remained until 1968.
[About the work]

I have not verified this because I do not have Simple Planes VR. Sorry.
