@TyDillon13GEICO of course, replicas are always welcome. We'll also have a best of show award for cool design and replicas. It's aside from the dogfighting, but it's another way to get recognized.
@plane918273645 awesome, @AtlasSP might be taking over in the future, but this is to see if it's even possible to organize. I've been running some mock dogfights with the two entries we got. So far it's been good. Without spoiling the details they were able to shoot each other down and even ram each other (with a survivor) without hitting the ground. I'll be running more traditional challenges as well, but your always welcome to take part in the Thunderdome.
@plane918273645 that's a good point and there are fights I've seen where that happens. We can throw those fights out, but in some cases where a plane goes into a spin out and crashes that can be counted as a loss. This is the first ever Thunderdome challenge so it's probably best to see what everyone thinks about it.
Question for the community: Should we count crashing into water or a mountain a win/lose or should it be thrown out?
My call is it shouldn't count, however so everyone gets what they want out of this I'm open to opinions.
@Alienbeef0421 you mean disabiling the collisions so you can make rudders and flaps right? then yes. As long as it's not XML to give your plane a distinct advantage. For example uping the surface area or lift of a wing, giving your weapons a high rate of fire, or using XML to make you a smaller target.
@BagelPlane good question, for the most part the AI dogfight mode (should) spawns both planes in fairly. If for some odd reason one plane is spawned in an unfair place the match is is thrown out. If one craft rams another planes and one plane in able to still fly while the other is not flyable the flying plane wins.
XML is basically not allowed for this challenge, sorry guys but this is a test of our ability to build. That is for the exception of the "scale" or fine tuner mod. I live purely off the ability to shrinks parts on the fly, wouldn't take that away because the stock parts can be gawd awful (who ever came up with that mod is a genius. There are however some minor conditions to that, because you can (accidentally) XML mod with the fine tuner.
No XML Modded Weapons, this is to include scale mods, everyone must use the same amount of space, (no mini miniguns).
XML is not allowed on engines, you can make the engine bigger or smaller, but it must output the same amount of power and fuel consumption as a non modded one (just make sure the relative output box is left unchecked).
Fuel supplies must not be modded. Your plane must carry it's fuel into the Dog fight, and if you have a small plane with little fuel, you'll have to engineer your way out of that issue.
I know it might be a struggle, the engine you want to use or the wings might not put out enough power or generate the lift you need. Maybe the balance your trying to achieve is off, that's the challenge. The second half is can the AI fly your plane. I built some amazing aircraft the AI can't fly, so testing is key.
Sorry about that, well if anything else you can definitely take over for the other series, everyone wants an XML challenge. At least your channel will get some attention.
Hey @CptJacobson, here's your overly detailed torpedo plane. Not as mobile friendly as I planned, but I wanted to apply some of the techniques from my latest projects.
@BlueCitrus I'm making an actual challenge, don't worry. Like always you can make your planes a successor to the challenge, and we randomly match them up for head to head. We can still judge the planes based on looks too... Don't want to discredit hard work. Then it goes on to YouTube, and we link the video there. This is still simple Planes so we'll still of course recognize cool looking planes.
@BlueCitrus So things like changing the scale and even afterburner colors are okay. I'm a huge fan of the scale tool, I'd probably have given up on SP if I never had it, so it won't be completely vanilla. Even making some things not collide with other parts using XML is cool. Just no infinite fuel, weightless fuselage, super armor, or crazy rail guns. It's a test of building ability.
@BlueCitrus I'm sorry, we need to play fair, last time I tried something like this with XML everyone had Lazer guns, don't worry, we'll start an underground dogfighting league next.
@AtlasSP It's no rush though. I think its a new challenge for the community. Simple Planes is a great game but I think the community never really gives credit to the engineering of something that flys well and more to what looks cool.
@AtlasSP it's cool, I'll run a challenge for a few weeks. Make sure they are good, and then I'll give you the match ups. I'll also make sure they know your video so you get the credit.
@Bmcclory I'm planning an ongoing series twice a month. The first round is end of April and then the next one is May 15. So you'll definitely get a chance to jump in.
Hey @AtlasSP what do you think? It'll get the community to take part in a little friendly competition, and give you a chance to grow your channel. I'll coordinate the madness of you don't mind filming.
Meanwhile at EAS they're perfecting color changing Soda, cherry soda that turns green when you open it, and yes the Bliss is coming along, will probably be released sometime next week.
Hey @AtlasSP, just an idea, why not try AI Battle Royales. That's how I test planes, for me it's to make sure a plane design is effective, but it's also entertaining to watch two AI fighters go at it, you might need the free cam mod though. Each week an even number of players can submit a design (that way you can make a ladder for each match), and each design goes head to head in the dogfight mode but each plane is AI controlled so it's fair. Best two out of three moves up to the next dogfight, and at the end of the season you have a winner. I would do it myself but I'm no YouTuber, also you can make some SP challenges for the community. Just a thought. By the way, the link goes to video #14 but I found the video, nice work.
@CptJacobson well the cockpit (minus some stubborn levers) is done, finishing up in the canopy, and working on the decals. I'm tapping out on that emblem. It's going to add too much weight and sacrifice performance. I could XML modify everything but its just going to take a lot of time. I'm making a custom squadron logo instead. It's going to have details that you'll see on planes like my Raven.
In all technicality it wasn't specified in the post what the wall is for, just "I need to build a great Wall". Maybe it's for a zombie apocalypse and @Alexbrisse just wants to keep the walkers out. Haven't had a good zombie game in awhile. I hope Junroo See's this for thier next update by the way. "1.9 Zombie survival mode".
On a separate note it's cool to see my plane going toe to toe with the Ice Fortress. I know it's a Multirole, but that was some good flying skills. The Ice Fortress is not an easy target to attack directly.
@AtlasSP thanks, after watching the Aquila fly in your video I realized it wasn't very easy to fly, so I made it this thing. Way more stable, and it hovers with the push of a button. It's still technically in it's test phase but it might be good for your video, and it does feature stuff from 1.8 in case you need a 6th Gen VTOL
Hey @AtlasSP, I have a plane that might be worth checking out. It's an update from my last plane the Aquila. Completely new VTOL jet and this one is a whole lot easier to fly. It uses the arresting hook so it does showcase something from 1.8. I added weapon pylons as well so you can add more weapons as needed. I always like your videos, thanks, it's in the link below.
Agreed, nothing like a classic, fits the parameters too and overall a solid build, Nice work.
@TyDillon13GEICO of course, replicas are always welcome. We'll also have a best of show award for cool design and replicas. It's aside from the dogfighting, but it's another way to get recognized.
@CptJacobson perfect, this will help out with the next upcoming builds, may need your permission to access though.

@Aerofy If you can squeeze a detailed fighter with 200 Parts by all means I'll say yes to that. XML Decals approved.
+1@AtlasSP also I was wondering if I could link your YouTube page to the Challenge? Haven't added it yet, but wanted to check first.
@Alienbeef0421 kind of a paragraph I'm sorry, but it goes over some key things.
@Alienbeef0421 nothing too complicated:
Let's see how the first one goes, not sure how popular it'll get.
Must Upvote, words cannot explain the awesome.
Sorry about that, well if anything else you can definitely take over for the other series, everyone wants an XML challenge. At least your channel will get some attention.
Hate to say it but it's a no go this time around. Really cool design, but don't worry there also an XML challenge coming up next.
@Armyguy1534 yes, that is okay. Just no super charging engines.
Alright the challenge is up here's the link below:
https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/KANm19/Thunder-Dome-Challenge-200-Part-Prop-League
@plane918273645 Now, look up the challenge tag, you should see it.
Well it sounds like everyone agrees to the rules, perfect, I'll get to work on a challenge.
@CptJacobson cool, this one was a test of the new build style. The next build can implement the new color schemes.
Right, sorry, sorting out new build requests, anyways new rules:
Let me know if this works for you guys.
@CptJacobson challenge accepted, already like the engines.
Hey @CptJacobson, here's your overly detailed torpedo plane. Not as mobile friendly as I planned, but I wanted to apply some of the techniques from my latest projects.
@doge thank you very much. The nose is a bit bare. Definitely something I'll do on the next build.
@BlueCitrus this post is so I can come up with rules for the actual challage, which will be posted some time today.
@BlueCitrus I'm making an actual challenge, don't worry. Like always you can make your planes a successor to the challenge, and we randomly match them up for head to head. @AtlasSP cool, does two weeks to build work out? That way your not rushed and everyone gets to really fine tune their builds.
@AtlasSP sounds cool to me, I'll start a challenge tonight. How much time do you want to give the entries?
@BlueCitrus So things like changing the scale and even afterburner colors are okay. I'm a huge fan of the scale tool, I'd probably have given up on SP if I never had it, so it won't be completely vanilla. Even making some things not collide with other parts using XML is cool. @Bmcclory hate to ask, but follow me on the Jetstream, I'll make an actual challenge for the community once the rules are cool with everyone.
@Bmcclory I'm planning an ongoing series twice a month. The first round is end of April and then the next one is May 15. So you'll definitely get a chance to jump in.

+1Only 621? we can bump that up a little I think.
+1Sure why not... Just give me a bit
I feel the need to comment on this plane and keep the thread going.
So I'm guessing this one isn't a carrier based aircraft.
Meanwhile at EAS they're perfecting color changing Soda, cherry soda that turns green when you open it, and yes the Bliss is coming along, will probably be released sometime next week.

+1I have no choice, I have to Upvote. It's so "simple"... That's it... Spotlighting now
+2@DarkRainbow2 not a problem, you build really good stuff, sometimes I think the best planes never get recognized.
+2@CptJacobson well the cockpit (minus some stubborn levers) is done, finishing up in the canopy, and working on the decals. I'm tapping out on that emblem. +1Cool design, I would say add a cockpit, but last time someone recommended that to me, I almost threw my phone out a window.
Thanks you @Treadmill103, @Ebf123, and of course @CptJacobson for the Upvote. I appreciate the support.
