Only complaint I have is that the roll response is sluggish, but this is gorgeous. Makes me excited for whenever I build my Super Hornet - though imma go for the two seat F model.
I like this a lot. It's hypermaneuverable in terms of pitch but the control is smooth enough that you can tame the sensitivity a bit. The multimissiles are neat. The build itself looks pretty cool and is of a realistic overall size for a fictional jet. The cockpit detail is nice too. Great job!
Hey I recognize where that second screenshot image is from! That's Strike Fighters 2; it's an old series of flight sim-lite games that covered air combat in the Cold War era, roughly mid 50's to early 80's. There was an early Strike Fighters 1/Wings Over series too from the same developers.
.
The F-101 isn't in base game, but there are mods to add it in as a flyable aircraft - including a "what-if" mod of the Voodoo in its original escort fighter role.
Wow, can't believe my old F-14 is still getting used even after I uploaded a brand new one a few months back. Kewl :)
.
This looks awesome, love the canards and vertical tails. The fuselage looks a bit messy but iz fin. New landing gear and glass fuselage are verr noice.
@ALRX Yep, I'm just learning at my pace. Nothing more to it.
.
I DO think the single nose wheel might be to blame for the lean on takeoff. Try experimenting and see what it is; it's not the suspension because I made sure those were equal in mass, strength, and dampening.
The fix I find usually works is increasing the mass of the spring until they behave as normal. Having higher spring and damper probably doesn't hurt either, but it's a lot of experimentation and continuously changing the values of those parameters until it works.
@Weebsruinedthiswebsite I mean...I like it. And I'm the owner of the build marble "ruined" with this kitbash.
.
Also @DarkMarble1 I got something cooking soon that you might enjoy that's in a similar vein to this (the plane, not the animu stuff :) )
@CAFMK Honestly I'm waiting for 1.10 to go out of beta before I start messing with glass. However I don't see the need to go back and refit all my current builds with glass parts.
.
Once 1.10 is public I'll start using those on all future builds instead of the glass outline I've stuck to.
Holy crap, this is such a wicked re-imagining of my F-14. I see we're getting our good ol' Mecha fix with this one, which is awesome.
.
Sadly my laptop probably couldn't run this build comfortably so I can't actually try it out, but I seriously like what you have going here. :)
I don't know if this will change your mind, but maybe try to uninstall and reinstall the game and see if that works for uploading again? Also having no mods on when you attempt the upload might help too.
.
If you're firm in leaving, then see you later. :) Stay well, wear a mask, yadda yadda.
@KCferrari I actually had your F-15C as one of the inspirations behind my recent F-15A Eagle, just because of how nice this one was for the version of the game it was made with.
Definitely an interesting footnote in the Me 262's history (I also love the Nightfighter version), and in some ways it's probably good that the A1a/U4 didn't enter service. From what I recall in addition to performance losses the Bk5 cannon itself was not reliable at all, and just firing the cannon could slow the plane in flight.
.
Maybe I should build a unique Me 262 instead of the A1; I bet the HGIII concept would be fun to pull off.
Nearly 3 years later and I still have a fond opinion of this build. One of the best F-15 Eagles on the website, hands down. It isn't horrendously massive in part count, but it has all the important details. Handles well. Could use custom missiles, but that's a minor thing.
What a world it would be if this or any of the other VFX contenders won that contract instead of Grumman...though honestly I don't miss the McDD entry because from what I know it was just an F-4 Phantom with swing wings? Maybe that was a different design altogether, but regardless.
.
I quite like the look of the Vagabond, and I mean...that name is just as cool as the Tomcat. It has a nice ring to it; F-14 Vagabond.
@FennVectorCWA Unfortunately so. On the flipside the hook isn't there for carrier operations, but emergency landings (even the F-15 had a tailhook for such situations.)
.
I really should have done more XML weight distribution or given more time to work on the landing gear. I partially blame the blueprints I was using, but I could've done far better reference hunting too.
At least your cockpit has working instruments via the funky tree system. I'm still only doing a partial cockpit and only the vaguest implication of instrumentation.
@Baldovino I'd love to do an F-104S to spinoff this build, but I'd probably do one of the Italian models which keeps the gun and has radar-guided missiles. Thing is - and other users have found this too - camouflage is kinda clunky to do in SP without massive part counts (so I've seen.)
@Nobodygood There's one jet in particular that also gets called Widowmaker famously, but I can't recall what it is at the moment.
.
Appreciate the comment. :)
@Falkenwut I may or may not be planning a 747-200... ;)
.
I can't seem to find a suitable blueprint for the -100 series, but Imma keep looking and try to make this work...somehow.
I have to agree with you that there's plenty of MiG-21 builds on SP; I just put out my own Ace Combat-inspired MiG lol
.
Nice to see a different livery for the ol' Balalaika than the usual Soviet/Russian stuff. I definitely would love to see someone put out an East German MiG-21 because those camouflage schemes look amazing. Personally I also would like to see different models of Fishbed (the F, F-13 for example don't get nearly as much love as say the MF or the bis)
@Falkenwut It's very trial and error so be prepared to jump into sandbox over and over until you're satisfied lol
+1Err noice

Didn't even mind the darkness. Adds A t m o s p h e r e
Verr kewl. Nice to see another plane under the flag of my birthplace
+1Oooo, moving into helis now I see. Kewl :)
+1@DeltaLCI Well all the girls in the show are based on real aces from the war, including one based on a night witch
+1Only complaint I have is that the roll response is sluggish, but this is gorgeous. Makes me excited for whenever I build my Super Hornet - though imma go for the two seat F model.

You get my updoot just for not building a single-seat Fishbed. :)

+1@SyntheticL sur, go ahead. :)
+1@WiiMini Hmm, never thought about that. Interesting :)

As a fan of SW/WW, this pleases me. :3

@LucasNicky lol, this is more along the lines of ground pounding. Not much S P E E D going on here.
+1The PSM is strong with this one, indeed.
+1Aww hecc, I was gonna make one of these eventually too.

Y e'rry1 gotta steal my ideas lol

Right on :)
+1Now THIS is an interesting reimagining of my F-14. :) Gives off anime-like superplane vibes, and it's low part count too. I'll have to try it out.

@BubbleLukasie No problem.

Just to clarify when I say right or left I'm looking from behind the plane. Good luck on finishing your Falcon :)
Another Ghostriders Tomcat has entered the realm... :)

+1@SimpleJets Hopefully nothing as horrendously complex. XD
+1@Kungfuevan If I do it'll be the F-5E Tiger II rather than the F-5A Freedom Fighter, but yes that is in the backlog :)
