Airbus had long stated that it was better to fly long haul with 4 engines.
The product of this vision was the Airbus A340-family.
The A340-200 is the smallest member of the family and entered into service, together with the larger A340-300, in 1993.
The A340-500 is a stretched version of the A340-300 and has one of the longest ranges of any commercial aircraft, the aircraft entered into service in 2003.
The A340-600 is the longest aircraft of the family and also on of the longest aircraft in the world, it entered into commercial service in 2002.
I’ve also made the A340-200/500/600:
A340-200
A340-500
A340-600
