The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 is an American mobile flight manufactured by McDonnell Douglas. The DC-10 was created as a replacement for the Douglas DC-8 on a long-haul flight. The first flight took place on August 29, 1970, and on August 5, 1971, it became part of American Airlines.

The aircraft has two turbojet engines on pylons under the wing and a third one at the base of the vertical stabilizer. The standard layout with two aisles is designed for 270 seats in two classes. The original DC-10-10 model has a capacity of only 6,500 kilometers and was intended exclusively for domestic flights. The DC-10-15 model had two powerful engines for hot and high altitude flights. The DS-10-30 and -40 models had a third main landing gear to support heavy weight, and each had an intercontinental range of up to 9600 kilometers. The KC-10 extension cable, designed for indoor use, is also based on the DC-10-30.
