Mil Mi-4 "Hound" AURI

The Mil Mi-4 (USAF/DoD reporting name "Type 36",[1] NATO reporting name "Hound")[2] is a Soviet transport helicopter that served in both military and civilian roles.

Service in TNI/Indonesian National Military

In the TNI environment, the Mi-4 began to be used before the Trikora operation period, the arrival of a package with Mi-6 heavy transport helicopters. In the composition of its users, as many as 16 Mi-4 units were used by the AURI. Then 14 units of Mi-4 for the TNI AD Publisher. While the TNI AL Publisher received a ration of 14 Mi-4 units, out of 14 units nine were AKS (anti-submarine) helicopters, five medium haulers, and VIP helicopters. Like its current descendants, the Mi-17, the arrival of the Mi-4 in 1965 was transported using an Antonov An-12 aircraft, then it was assembled by AURI technicians at Husein Sastranegara Air Base, Bandung.

Besides being used to support Trikora's operations, the Mi-4 also played a major role in Dwikora's operations, during the confrontation with Malaysia in West Kalimantan. After the fall of the old order, the Mi-4 with a 12.7 mm caliber DShK-38 SMD was also widely used to support the crushing operation of the PKI rebellion in Central Java between 1965-1966.
