Just thought I'd let everyone know that there's a huge update for SimplePlanes available on Steam now for beta testing. Ridiculous amount of new features and places to fly.
New Islands
- TWO NEW BIG FEATURE ISLANDS, but you'll need to find them yourself.
- Also added over twenty smaller islands scattered throughout the ocean.
New Parts
- Resizable Wheels - Because why not make this game SimpleCars too?
- Car Engine - So you can power those new wheels!
- Beacon Light - Light up the skies.
- Shock - Since you'll be building cars now, you'll need these.
- Piston - Sometimes you just need to push parts away from each other.
- Hinge Rotator - Finally, right?
- Small Rotator - It's a slimmer version of the current rotator.
- Extra Large Jet Engine - For all you airliner lovers.
Features and Tweaks
- 6 new races unlockable by discovering them in sandbox mode.
- 12 achievements for the new races.
- 2 new songs
- Added discoverable locations
- Made the locations dialog awesome
- Added a heading indicator
- Added a new stock aircraft (dune buggy)
- Added elevator trim
- Replaced some training levels with an interactive tutorial
- The fuselage part can now be resized by 0.25 increments
- Jet engines now have a power multiplier that is XML mod-able
- Jet engine sound now changes pitch with throttle.
- Jet engine/VTOL exhaust scale is now XML mod-able
- Aircraft are now a little bit more resilient to collision damage
- Added search filters to the load aircraft and subassemblies panels
- Split settings XML into two separate files so that progress-related settings can be saved to the Steam cloud.
- Bullet size no longer scales throughout flight
- Bullet tracer color is now XML mod-able (EDIT: There seems to be an issue with this).
- Performance tweaks
- Game engine upgrade (Unity 5.1.4 -> Unity 5.3.4)
We plan on running the beta until next Friday (4/15) before releasing the final 1.4 update on Steam.
Mobile
We are hoping to release on mobile sometime this towards the end of this month. We are not exactly sure what features will make it into mobile, but we will make sure we get all parts on mobile. Unfortunately the new islands will never make it to mobile since they are huge.
How to get Beta
- Open the Steam client (you need to own SimplePlanes on Steam).
- Right click on the game in your library and click “Properties”
- Click the “Betas” tab
- From the “Select the beta you would like to opt into:” drop-down select public-test
- Steam should start downloading the public-test version of the game. You can also verify that you are playing the public test by checking the version in the “About” menu from the initial menu: 1.4.0.1
@JMicah4 It's nothing, the webserver just internally redirects to the same page without the '/index' at the end.
@AndrewGarrison what is this page?
@omerwexler go to the dropdown menu and it should say public test
But I need a code to download the beta
PLEASE ADD BETA FOR MOBILE!!!!! ITS SO ANNOYING NOT BEING ABLE TO DO IT YET THERE ARE NEW MAD SCIENCE PARTS PLEASE HURRY THE FUDGE UP WITH ALL MY RESPECT!
No more islands for mobile....:(
plz add multiplayer i need it
Search filters....No more loading an aircraft by accident and waiting for it to load three times
U was wrong!!@WillB88
I'm excited for mobile, too excited really. I do wish we can get the option to type the specific values with just about anything instead of the incremental thing. Also, maybe make the mobile version choose which islands to load or make them seperate loadable worlds? I wish.
This forum post has more upvotes than the highest rated plane on this website.
Looks as though everyone is excited. 😀
after you take the Ice base you should have the option to disable the missle launchers (please!) it can be annoying to be shot down after you fly out of the base you took control of!
@KevokevoMC Mobile is still not powerful enough
@Thefalloutplayr They are currently only testing beta on Steam, because Thats where most of the community are. Also the App-store doesn't support testing. If they realesed it, it would be out to everyone. However, the update is claimed to be coming out by late April!
@InterStellarENT
I very well know that the original game in my phone has taken 700 mb but i am certain that we can use huge sd cards like my 64gb one and so my simpleplanes left in my device is only 90 mb
@KevokevoMC The software they use is not like that of other games
(My phone is a 2014 asus zenfone 5 and it still can handle most of the big games on android)
It only requires usb otg for emulator games as they are big
@InterStellarENT
How about those big games like gta and other bigger games from other consoles using emulators like gta 5
is there a way to give the ability for resizable wheels to clip in fuselages like the old landing gear?
@KevokevoMC Mobile devices are just not powerful enough to handle all the big maps.
@AndrewGarrison
how about make those islands a mod for android because not everyone has a pc and not everyone's phone is not capable of running large ram consuming games. Even the people of the developing world can afford one that can as now thre are cheaper options than apple or samsung
Some anti missile stuff would be great in future updates!!
@Noval5 Yeah, It really sucks
@O5c444r Friday on Steam, today!!!
@AndrewGarrison Will Multiplayer or at least LAN every be a possibility? I ask because I'd love to do a few land races with a couple friends of mine and also try out demolition derbies.
