We have started working on the SimplePlanes 1.8 update and one thing we really want to do is upgrade the version of Unity that we are using. SP is currently using an ancient version (v5.3.6) and we'd like to upgrade to the latest version, which is v2018.3. Game engines are like people in that they can get old and crusty if you don't update them often.
As with all updates to the Unity game engine, we are concerned about any unforeseen consequences this might have on existing airplanes and mods. We've been testing for about a week now and we haven't noticed any major issues, so we are asking you to help. Players are brilliant at testing and identifying all the ways in which we have failed as software developers.

This update doesn't include any new features (that's why it's the Lamest Beta Ever), but it's very important that we identify any potential issues with the upgrade as early as possible, so that's why we're releasing it at the beginning of our update cycle.
Warning
- If you are concerned about losing data (such as planes, settings, unlocked locations), I highly recommend backing it up before trying the beta. There is always risk of losing data during betas. If that makes you uncomfortable, I'd recommend not trying the beta right now.

What to test
- Test as many airplanes as you can and make sure they feel like they are flying and behaving the same as they do in 1.7
- Test as many mods as you can and let us know if you find any mods that are broken.
- Test the races, combat missions, and challenges
- How is the performance? Do you feel the game is running faster, slower, or roughly the same?
Known Issues
- Opening a downloaded .splane or .spmod file does not currently work while the game is running.
- The view cannot be rotated while the game is paused. Sorry about that!
- Some mods will have graphical problems due to shader changes between Unity 5.3.6 and 2018.3. If you find any mods with a graphical issue, please let us know and we will do what we can to fix the problem from our end. Sometimes this won't be possible and it will require the mod author to update their mod. We don't have mod tools available yet for 2018.3, but we will try and get those out soon. Right now we are just focusing on identifying what is busted.

IDEA: Advanced fuselage options. In the options window for fuselage pieces, there will be a button that says Advanced. If you click it, it will bring up the advanced options, which are Shape: can choose between normal, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, rhombus (normal but on 45° angle), Etc. In the menu, you can change the length of individual lines, and each one will be a different color that matches a color square before the line number. If you want a triangle, the lines will be named Line 1-Line 3, and each will have a different color. Example: [(Green)] [Line 1] [Edit]. And there will be a symmetry button that makes the fuselage semetrical. Example: you have a triangle, and Side 1 is the left side, Side 2 is the right side, Side 3 is the bottom. If symmetry is active, if you change Side 1, Side 2 will mirror it, but Side 3 will stay the same.

@AndrewGarrison I would like to suggest some ideas for future updates, like customisable and resizeable flight controls and interface, a better dogfighting AI, and make the air-to-air missiles less accurate so that missiles aren't that OP anymore. Tank aiming mod seems to be broken. If you enter tank aiming mode (without the crosshair etc) the camera freezes in Place. Only way to fix is by restarting. The only other option is being stuck with the tank aiming camera.
Nukes mod. 1.8 busted it. The nuke doesn't show anymore the mushroom cloud '' no need to say but the damage is as same as a boom 50''

@MontyPython i hope so this is something that make this game Mord realistic but i found out that in normal play sometimes something stop my plane very brutal in the carrier but i dont know if its just a bug or the wire

I've just discovered this as well and I have no idea if it works or not as the modified Carrier based version of my fighter has an arresting hook I built into it but it doesn't seem to do anything. I think it may be implemented in later versions
The Sound barrier mod is broken I think. I used it with the beta but it shows up a bunch of black, square sheets instead of white vapor (aside from the small vapor clinging to my aircraft)
