I'm going to keep this short. Youtube has come out with a new rule that mandates every single channel flag whether their content is made for kids or not. It seems harmless, but there's more; if the algorithm dictates that your channel or videos are not what you flagged them as, you can be fined up to $42,000 PER video. This applies to creators across the entire globe, not just the united states, which includes me, jundroo/andrew, and everyone else on this site who has one. It might not be much of an issue for most of the channels who make sp content, but for me it's something i don't want to lay a finger on because my content is so mixed.
As for the reason this is being done, it's because youtube has been caught knowingly violating COPPA. That law is why kids age 12 and under cannot make an account on this site without parental consent. What it does is it protects minors from having their information tracked and stored by google, and other sites.
So I've decided initially to make my channel private. If it turns out that it will still be under this new rule, I will permanently delete my youtube channel.
it is imperative for your own future to take action on this on all channels you own on youtube.
You guys should watch this. Marking your videos as not for kids won't save you from COPPA.
There's been more going on than this. Youtube has been taking down millions of videos for copyright violations, some of them even uploaded by the actual author of the song or whatever content it is.
Continuing with songs, I've noticed that youtube is making some songs as videos you need to pay for to watch.
What's Google planning to buy now?
It‘s rather a weird law, I must say. Sounds at least surprising. Though, on the other hand, it’s easy to understand it as, I think, you wouldn’t like to have your personal info being tracked and stored by different sites, including Google. Moreover, as for me, it’s one of the precautions for persons under 12 to guard against undesirable content. But here goes one question: will I be able to download videos from YouTube after such a law easily? I heavily doubt in this… One of my friends recommended https://loader.to to be on the safe side. Indeed it’s a great site, it helps to download music in different formats like FLAC, OGG, OPUS, WAV, M4A and many others , and video in WEBM and MP4 formats. I have been using it already a year
Well, there’s another reason I should simply stop producing content
@marcox43 yes, youtube is a US based site
I'm curious, does this law the U.S is imposing, affect the content creators on the whole planet?
@CruzerBlade yessir, its a tag
I'm pretty sure the YouTube community won't let this go down easy. As long as we keep talking about it and saying how much it will negatively impact YouTube and the creators on YouTube, they might recognize how much this makes zero sense.
@Mattangi2 wait there is?
@Nickr it's not YouTube. Blame the FDA and bad parenting for this. Youtube is just complying with the laws.
YouTube is starting to act like EA. They dont listen to the people and want money
Old news
@CruzerBlade there already is a SFW section
thanks for explaining this on SP instead of Boomer
As of today I will host my simpleplane videos from pornhub
Youtube is becoming worse and worse every year. Any company gets to claim any video they like with no repercussions, even if the video has nothing to do with them. But content creators who were falsely claimed can possibly get a strike and a large portion of their ad revenue taken away. And now we have COPPA, fining people unruly amounts of money because an untrained algorithm decided the video isn't kid friendly. At this point, we might as well punish people for existing.
Oh wait, those are taxes
I just about make 10k a year and I run a small yt channel I (also I’m currently broke) so if yt fines me I will have to leave the YouTube carrier for good (sorry for th bad typing I’m not mobile)
Bruh
Alternatives include Vimeo and dailymotion...
@BuiltBionixInd10
And iOS
Yeah, this thing is just really stupid. Who else was thinking what happens if a youtube channel gets fined, but they don't have that kind of money (like me)?
we need a revolution against YouTube
if this law isnt changed im deleting the channel and uploading the videos somewhere else
@melojam I really dont know tbh
I guess it's best to wait it out or wait for an alternative site to launch
how the heck am i gonna post my railfanning videos now
and also how do i make my channel safe so it doesnt go down
