The wright bros weren't the first to fly a powered aircraft, recent evidence has proved that a young German inventor called Gustave Whithead who emigrated to the US (cause of imperial Germany) built and flew the worlds first powered aeroplane, it was a twin engine bird-like winged plane, the wing design is thought to have been adapted from early gliders and surprisingly lifted the aircraft named the condor or, No21 to a night of 50 feet in 1901 two years after the wrights, the plane apparently flew for a distance of around one mile, the plane has been proven to fly by a replica built to original plans and specifications written and drawn by Gustave's assistant it as been flown, but whilst this does prove that the plane was flyable, there were no witnesses of importance therefore the flight was only logged in the diaries of Gustave's colleges and no giant news story followed and it was forgotten in history, thus why the wrights were credited with the first flight,
of course many have claimed to make the first powered flight even before this, but this one had more compelling evidence...
But anyway, this is what I believe is true but it still is being proven so don't whine, I just thought I'd give a an ingesting story cause I was bored :)

Gustave's evidence is poor. Also, in 1901, the Wright brothers made a glider.
I, and i am the first one which build that plane...

Yes, I believe he may have flown, but this guy is the only one PPP have really credited for the first flight.. Idk why probably cause it seemed more likely that something built in 1901 would fly, currently almost all the claims of flight before the wright Bros have beenroven of flight but only on papers lol that's needed now is for ppl to make exact replicas @UnstableOrbit
It's like hang glider control, the pilot moves his body weight to change the CoM of the plane thus causing great it to pitch, or roll, @Brields95
And he controlled it with his weight? Mmhmmm yeah I can't even make a plane turn using propeller thrust without losing control.
@XVIindustries Well, if we are going to go on about who was the first to fly, I am just going to leave this here for you(http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/maxim.html). Whithead may have flown in 1901, but Hiram Maxim may have beaten him as far back as 1894.
There are pictures of the machine, but not in flight the poor guy count afford a camera and after his achievement they took his photograph, and there were witnesses including townsfolk seeing a large bird like thing flying around, the Russian guys aeroplane would have never flown, it's design is too heavy he may have done a small glide but it's not possible that such a heavy machine could fly.. But in the end it all comes down to what you believe, I soon all ebleive that if he hadn't died Percy pilcher would have flown the first powered aircraft, his triplane was built about 10 years before wrights but he was tragically killed in a glider accident days before the scheduled flight day, the only way to find out if the thing flies is to build a replica equal of the real thing and see if it flies, and the no21 did, and the pilcher triplane did, but as no one will build replicas then we will never know @Brields95
I don't believe he actually flew. No pics, whitnesses, the way he bragged about it, yeah he BS'd his way into the books. Alexander Mozhaiski, now there's a man with credibility.
Cool little bit of info mate :)
Lol
It looked like a boat with wings
He revealed it after the lef- right bros. Made the first selfi- airplane... And it flew
Mind=blow
I understand @AeroEngineering
I knew this👍🏾@XVIindustries
@XVIindustries I respect that you believe Gustave was the first to fly, I was just saying my opinion and why my opinion is what it is
Oh and also the wright Bros were complete asses they just went ahead and sued everyone in Europe for building planes in WW1 they weren't nice guys... Partly why I've never tried to build a wright plane @Verdnan
Look up the guys name, @Brields95
And? I did say don't whine, this account dated from 1901, whilst he may have been the first to actually fly, he only controlled the plane via moving his body, the wrights were the first to fly a controlled plane @Verdnan
He controlled the plane by moving the weight of his body @AeroEngineering
Not to whine, but according to the analysts at the National Air and Space museum, the Wright Brothers were fist to fly with. Powered, controlled flight. However, I do accept that Gustave Whitehead was the first with powered flight, just not controlled flight
You know the wright bros did more than fly, they developed and patented the controls of the plane. They knew many others would eventually get airborne but they would need their roll, pitch and yaw, to be practical.
Sources?
Lol @icecoldlava
In my mind, Icarus and Daedalus were the first- fart propelled planes with feather wings. What could possibly go wrong?
