What kinds of weapons do you think will be widespread in the 2050s or later? Particle cannons, lasers, coilguns/railguns, God rods, you name it.

@AstleyIndustries
That might have been one of the Imperial tanks/APCs. My builds are set in the 2050s, so that rules out a couple of the weapons that are listed.
@ArcturusAerospace T'au XV-8 seems ok, but I remember one that looks like an upright brick or something
@AstleyIndustries
Do you dislike the Imperial Knights & Titans or the T'au battlesuits?
@ArcturusAerospace the article you linked has weapon examples and tactical strategies, so just choose something suitable and that you like
I don't know anything about warhammer 40k, only seen a few pics here and there. Not a fan of their mech designs
Suggestion: lighter weapons are better for urban combat, so basically, probably don't rocket launcher
@AstleyIndustries
My current builds are set after 2050, and the mech is heavily based off of the T'au XV-8 Crisis Battlesuit from Warhammer 40,000.
@ArcturusAerospace small mech for urban earth environments:
My favorite design reference, the size class is slightly bigger
Tips:
- consider the era (of your story), combat environments and styles, organisation using the mech, and for special versions, the pilot's preferences
- futuristic weapons have a greater downpayment but may be cheaper in the long run due to not needing physical ammo, plus more difficult to maintain, traditional weapons rack up prices over time
- futuristic weapons become more accessible over time
My own weapon choices: I still largely use autocannons and missiles despite being set in the similar timeframe
@ArcturusAerospace oh ok just go full 'Merica and make the whole thing a GUN
@AstleyIndustries @rexzion
I'm trying to get ideas for a cityfighting mech's weapons. It'll be about 9 feet tall, so it will have to have small weapons, like autocannons, lasers, and small coilguns.
Probably just no jet fighters, lasers, tanks, ships, or anything just straight up zoomy zoom missiles. boring warfare.
It seems railguns for heavier attacks, lasers for lighter attacks
Laser turrets like snowstone base can be good against light spacecraft
Particle destabilizer.
Better versions of what we have now
If railguns were to be shrunk down and a portable energy source could be found, railguns could become extremely accurate snipers. Also, air defenses could benefit from railguns.
I agree with @spefyjerbf the only large scale application for lasers would be on a new class of destroyers with a nuclear reactor.
@spefyjerbf
Thanks!
It’s been already said, but definitely railguns. They are the most feasible, (arguably) have the most research behind them, and have many benefits aside from “oooh future stuff”.
@asteroidbook345
According to the Spookston Youtube channel, we will have the tech for that in about 20 years.
@asteroidbook345
ETC guns are probably going to become mainstream, as the conversion from conventional tank cannon to ETC cannon is relatively cheap, the performance is consistent, and propellants could be formulated that could only be ignited by the ETC gun's plasma igniter.
@asteroidbook345
May I hear your opinion on the topic of this post, fine sir?
@TheFantasticTyphoon
Lasers take a while to do damage. If you were to have a laser that could instantly do a large amount of damage, it would require an extremely large amount of power to operate. However, they could be used to kill the crew of vehicles by overheating them, causing minimal damage to the vehicle's systems. Unfortunately, this method would cause a slow and painful death if the victims didn't leave the vehicle. That would cause the use of them to be banned by the UN, with using them becoming a war crime. That is, if the UN still exists in 2050 onward. They are cool though, and I would use them, if the gun noises could be removed.
Lasers. How can you beat the speed of light when it comes to muzzle velocity?
