Welcome to my new series! I’m writing these to educate and entertain the bored. Chessie the cat was the mascot of the Chessie system from 1933-1985,
Chessie was first used to promote the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad’s air conditioned carriages, they used the slogan “Sleep Like A Kitten” and accompanied it with art by the Austrian Artist Guido Grünewald, the ad made no mention of the name of the cat, soon the cat would get the name Chessie, and other characters were added to the cast, such as Chessie’s kittens, and Peake the cat, Chessie And Peake, like Chesapeake. after the 1960s C&O discontinued the passenger services, Becoming a freight operation. Chessie was used as the logo for the Chessie System.
, Chessie was now the logo but sadly in 1985 the railroad merged with several other railroads becoming CSX. Only CSX engine 7765 has a Chessie logo on it (366 had one but it was removed after a fire), in 2019 a book called “Chessie takes a train trip” was released as chessie’s most recent appearance,

No, Seymour, Indiana. @RailfanEthan
@Strikefighter04 Hyndman?
I grew up in the DC area shortly after they changed the name to CSX. When I was a kid, most of the box cars still had the big yellow kitten on the side of them. I never knew what a cat had to do with a train until I grew up.
Interesting
Niiiiiiiice the tracks of the B&O (baltimore and ohio) (now CSX) runs through harpers ferry and ive been to harpers ferry before
RIP there is a Chessie System caboose on display in a town near me.
