A BEGINNERS GUIDE ON HOW TO
A V O I D
GETTING UPVOTES ON SIMPLE PLANES
By following these seven easy mistakes, you too can post creations that are certain to be ignored.
1) Zoom out:
Zoom way out on those thumbnail pictures, people hate it. They'll be sure to skip right over your post when all they see is a grey plate in the middle of a black background, especially when everyone else on the list did the exact same thing! A big long line of silver ovals. Awful.
2) Don't bother with a description:
If someone actually clicks on your post, you are in real danger of getting upvotes, or even worse: downloads! But don't worry, nothing says "zero effort" like not even bothering to fill out a description. Bonus points if you upload without using all 3 thumbnail images.
3) Avoid testing:
Establish a reputation for rock-bottom quality by posting your creations before you test them. Bonus points if you argue with anyone who takes the time to point out any of the crap that needs to get fixed. This won't just help you avoid upvotes on your current project, but help people avoid your work in the future!
4) Post lots of stuff on the same day:
One of the best ways to cut down your odds of success is to compete with yourself! Split your odds of making it to the dreaded "front page" by posting something, making some minor change, and then posting it again 20 minutes later. Not only will it confuse would-be supporters, but it'll also irritate them.
5) Post similar things over and over again:
The key here is to bore your audience. Just keep churning out the same old junk. Don't bother improving your style or even making something different than anything else. Bonus points if you can argue with anyone that tries to help you improve your skills with criticism. This ties in with establishing a reputation for just not giving a crap.
6) Make it a successor:
The dev team will probably hate me for saying this, but everyone hates successors. Many people see that tag at the top of the post and immediately hit the back button on their browser. Even high quality successor builds tend to get less upvotes than those lacking the successor tab.
IMPORTANT NOTE: UNLESS YOU GET PERMISSION FROM THE ORIGINAL CREATOR, YOU MUST USE THE SUCCESSOR TAG IF UPLOADING SOMETHING THAT CONTAINS ANYONE ELSE'S WORK. YOU CAN GET BANNED FOR VIOLATING THIS RULE.
7) Avoid detail:
I saved this one for last because it's so important when it comes to shunning large numbers of upvotes. If your creation looks like crap, people will likely treat it as such. Interesting thumbnail photos with background, a variety of angles, and lots of texture dominate the front page. If you want to avoid upvotes, you must stay off the front page. So keep it simple. Don't learn how to do things like 3D wings, decals, custom cockpits or engines. And whatever you do, do not download and study successful builds from other people otherwise you might learn something.
Well, that's all for now. Stay safe out there and good luck. Oh, and be sure to leave any tips of your own in the comments!
8) use excessive alternative text
many people get
rather annoyedwhen people use these fonts a lot,

real
eyesore.
So be sure to not
use text like this
every five minutes, or
else people might find

@RepublicOfCursedPlanes
@JeskoGoesVROOM yes, but I see that both of us are failing at that
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes
ok but seriously,
11) Build an actual plane:
This may sound counterintuitive, but if you uploaded a low-effort build that's something other than a plane, people will think it's a meme build, which makes your post an instant updoot machine. In comparison, people typically do not care about low-effort planes, as there are many other good planes on the site.
12) Do not let the plane have ANY functions whatsoever:
No functions. The plane must not have any weapons, PSM ability, cockpit interior, or even worse, something unique. Remember, functions are things that make people upvote stuff.
13) Having bad names for your aircraft:
Give your aircraft a name that has nothing special about it, i.e. "tr-5", "hing h027", "Plane01". These sorts of names are extremely boring.
use full lowercase preferably and do not at all costs use symbols like "(),[] and comma. Again, they make the name uninteresting.
14) Have an bad username
To complement your awful build names, you need an equally awful username. Just put a bunch of letters that don't make a coherent word, and you have a name that no one can relate to, and that people find annoying. E.g. GJBSGF, qehshb
15) Just get banned:
Doing this is really simple, just make a post that violates any of the many rules that SimplePlanes has. If you do this, your account will get banned, and you will never get upvotes again! Yay!
I see that this tutorial is not helpful at all, considering that it has upvotes
I tried this on an alt a few months ago, I made an ugly plane, didn't test it, didn't make a description, zoomed so far out you couldn't even see it, and then reposted it as a sucessor 10 minutes later. Yet it still got an upvote.
Why? Because of the one point you missed:
∞) Do not, under any circunstances, tag u/BeastHunter.
You have a stack of upvotes.
@divisor nevermind I got a new pc
@JeskoGoesVROOM lol
i don't even know how to add custom screenshots on sp lol
@divisor
I dont use custom screenshot because the quality of the things I record/take a picture are horrible ;-; ( and sorry for my crappy English)
34) If it exists, there are reuploads adding missiles
Hey, F104, how did I do on my Type 5 light fighter?
use blocks
10) Don't paint your plane
Nothing says no effort as well as no paint. If you leave your plane in plain white and orange, people will probably not want to look at it.
@TanksWorldwide Hmmmm, try disabling the suspension
This has given me a cluster headache.
wow thank you! ive needed this for 2.5 years!
@Mostly
I've had 430 downloads and only 20 upvotes. XD
