As a server :) owner myself, I agree, but it is hard to gain new members without using forums. We try to innovate by creating challenges, videos, and other events to try to be less spammy. Forums are just the best and it's not really close. If there are other means to get new members I am happy to hear it.

The whole point of the forum section is to improve communication among users. Using it to promote an even better way of communication isn't a bad thing. I understand that server invites can get a bit spammy at times, which is a problem server administrations should resolve. I'm ready to work with server owners on making one big forum post with all the invites that would be pinned for all to see.
Why doesn’t someone just create a forum, and everyone advertise there. People looking for discord’s servers can go there, and have many options, plus it makes annoyed people happy as there’s not ads all over the place

Yes, maybe advertising a Discord server all the time isn't really a good idea, I would say advertising it at times like, when you are starting out or you're lacking members, for example, are better times to advertise.
