1. This letter was directly copied and pasted from a support ticket I wrote to Jundroo.
2. Dllama4, JamesPLANESii, WiiMini, BoganBoganTheMan and all individuals named here are friends, or atleast are on friendly terms with me. This forum post is not meant to incite spite, but rather uses these examples to illustrate the flaws presented here.

This support ticket is being written to Jundroo with regards to simpleplanes.com's policy on changing usernames. For over four years, users were restricted to the username they chose during the creation of their account. Account usernames could only be changed upon emailing Jundroo or by creating a special support ticket.

10 months ago, in the month of July 2020, Moderator SupremeDorian announced that usernames can now be changed once every thirty days without going through the arduous process of emailing Jundroo and patiently waiting for a reply.

This change was received extremely well by the community, with the forum post garnering a monumental 164 upvotes. This change, however, would come with some negative implications.

Popular users such as JamesPLANESii (now @AN2Felllla) kept changing their username until it was nearly impossible to identify them, and one would always need to go to the profile to figure out who this new 150k user was.

There was also the "NameNameTheMan" episode, wherein popular user Dllama4 changed their name to "BoganBoganTheWoman" as a meme, imitating BoganBoganTheMan. Soon after, half the website was filled with "NameNameTheMan" usernames and it was nearly impossible to identify who was who.

10 hours ago, as of writing this ticket, people started changing their usernames to imitate user "WiiMini", and the link below proves illustrates this problem.

WiiMini, MiiWini, iniMiiW, MinWiii, MiiniWi, PapaWii, QuitePossiblyWiiMini, WiiMaus. And that's only in the first 10 hours.

I, thus, implore the developers to reconsider their decision and systematically revoke permissions to username changes. I recommend publicly announcing the same via blog or forum post, giving users one week to change their usernames once, and finalise what username they wish to be identified by.
