Calling all Designers - Question about Nose Design

20.9k LieutenantSOT  3.2 years ago

Okay, so I'm trying to design a modernized B-36 that could be used in a modern field. Transonic speeds, and high surface ceiling

New additions would include 6 5000 SHP Turboprops, and then 8 8,000 IbF jet engines underneath, much like the B-52. It would also have racks on the wings for Cruise Missiles, extendable turrets on the sides for ground support, and even 2 turrets, one on top and one on the bottom. The top one would include 2 AAM, and the bottom a single AGM, and a 20mm rotary cannon for self defense or ground attack
The rear 20mm autocannon would be replaced with 2 25mm Dracon Autocannons

Along with all of these modifications, I want the aircraft to reach and sustain 310 mph with just props, and possibly reach speeds of up to 690 mph with the jets, if not higher. The low stabilizer will be changed to a high wing stabilizer to counteract the excess upwards pitch from the new engines, and finally the most crucial part: a new aerodynamic nose that resembles the design of the old one

Question:

To all the designers out there, what should the nose look like? If you've seen my old B-36X post, I don't quite like how it came out at all, and I intend on rebuilding it once the update comes out. My THI presidential version for commercial transport, and the military version

Anyways, the nose looks horrible. I want an aerodynamic nose design that does not differ much from the original Convair B-36 design. Does anyone have any ideas?

    @WarHawk95 this is really random, but in 2023 over spring break (in March), my school is doing a Barcelona/Paris trip. Do you have any advice on Paris?

    @WarHawk95 ooh, very true, very true. That idea sounds really good, actually

    Just take the nose of the NB-36H
    And don't include turrets, just a remote controlled 20mm M61 rear turret like the B-52H (Look, take the existing modern designs)

    @JustWingIt Good idea!

    I was actually thinking about this, much like on SimplyPlain's Convair Long Range Bomber for my SAC challenge, but there's one issue: I want to maintain that old B-36 Vibe

    However, this does give me an idea of what to do with the nose. I can elongate it, and make the bottom half glass, with a bomb sight dude, and a radio/radar operator behind them. Almost floating on the glass. With the cockpit up top, more or less like the original one with newer features

    To make the nose look more like the original B-36, you should first make it more stubby. Reduce the length of the nose cone so it's 75% the length that it is now. Then, get rid of the little cockpit on top of the nose. That'll make it more sleek. Next, give it windows like on the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon on the front. It'll make it more futuristic. If you want to see what I mean, just ask me and I'll build a model, though I'll warn you I'm not the best builder of all time. Good luck!
