I noticed this on a recent build with respect to partCollisionResponse, if shocks are set to disconnectOnly they seem to look fine, but set to "none" take a look... but they still seem to perform the same..
partCollisionResponse = disconnectOnly
partCollisionResponse = none

The connections are just bad, pistons and detachers suffer from this too. There's nothing I know you can do to fix it

Probably because shocks are made to bend on collision or pressure. None takes away that response.
