Since this game has a component of education about flight, I figured it could another one about the actual the engineering inside the (air)crafts.
I tried to do this with FT, simulating virtual individual fuel tanks, hydraulic systems, bleed air, electrical power, all the systems related to the engines, basically. But it's still rather limited, you can't simulate specific failures like oil or fuel line leaks (You can set fuel tanks and engines on fire but that's about it). Something like this would probably eliminate the infinite power exploit from pistons and rotators.
Another idea on this topic would be jet turbines that you can tweak, kinda like SR2 but better, where you can change:
- Engine type (Turbine, piston in-line/radial)
- Fuel consumption;
- Engine temperature (heat damage too);
- Transmission length and articulation;
- Gearbox and clutches for wheels, propellers and fans;
- Dynamos and electric motors for power generation amd start-up;
- (Might add more ideas later)
All of these could be somewhat modular, like two turbines connected to a single shaft through a gearbox that transmits power to two contrarotating propellers. This would probably eliminate the issue where you need multiple engine to make one realistic engines, where engine consumption is way higher than it needs to be, where you build turbofan engines that make a piston engine sound (custom sounds would also be nice)
@SemedianIndustries That’s a good idea.
@SemedianIndustries Ah, I see. I forgot not everyone has a nasa PC.
@PlaneFlightX that's what I do, but when the plane gets big, the amount of times the game crashes just becomes too obscene to actually write and test any code
@G2 remember when they introduced the vsriable fuselsge blocks? They kept the old ones too. The same fould be done here.
Meh just write another 5423554 pages of FT.
@SemedianIndustries It'd be nice, but i like simple engines more, it would be cool if you could toggle it on and off in settings or smth
complex stuff makes my brain hurt bad
@Yourlocalhuman actually I can afford it, it's my laptop that can't take it
In short term, you cannot afford DCS so you make it yourself?
