here's an interesting statistic.
only 4.5% of players on Steam have ever uploaded a plane. Only 55% have ever downloaded a plane. Maybe we have a bunch of people having fun with the stock planes? this confuses me. From Steam achievements page
I suspect the percentage of mobile users that have uploaded a plane is much higher. Very few people will pay $6 for a phone game and then not be willing to invest the time to figure it out. On Steam, a person could get it on sale with money left over from their gift card, they could find the game in a humble bundle, or something else could happen where they own the game but aren't really interested in playing it.
@temporaryplanetester I watched the community for 2 years and had the game during that time before I created my account. I wanted something that was good enough that I wouldn’t fell like crap about publishing before I made an account
On one hand, people might struggle making a functional craft and therefore use stock crafts. On the other hand, some people do not want to share their creations to the wider public or share their creations but on the wrong website instead of simpleplanes.com. This should explain the statistics.
@JeskoGoesVROOM I recall seeing the game advertised as a "Flight Simulator" and not a random-stuff-building-and-sharing game.
Could be those people don't know about it because they think the game is a conventional flight sim or they can't figure out how to make stuff and so just play with the default or downloaded planes.
it's most likely just that they're mature enough to be aware of the 13-and-above requirement at already that age, so they don't make an account but do still play when they're below 13
i did something like this too, though in my case i've been playing since 2014-2015 and i still suck :skull: :clown:
@temporaryplanetester
Would explain why so many people adquire millenia of experience in plane building before making an account.
I wonder why they do that though, do they just never realize you can upload stuff?
@ReinMcDeer yeah, it is important to note the demographic here. I suspect the numbers are vastly different if you could find those stats for the mobile players. I would be willing to bet a higher percentage of those people have uploaded planes.
Note: This only describes the Steam player base and includes people who bought the game and never/barely played it and people who are not registered on the site.
Still though, only 4.5%? Damn.

I mean the stock planes are kinda based as they are.

@32
Yeah thats pretty much what I did before I had my account.
@ColonelCanada maybe there are people like my younger brother, who is too young to have an account and just messes around and destroys stuff
People build planes too
