There are approximately 300,000 users on the site. Assuming each one bought the game on mobile for $6, Jundroo has made approximately $1.8 million off of SimplePlanes alone. Keep in mind that's over a 9-ish year period, so they make (on average) 200k a year. That means that each employee is making approximately $25K a year, a decent fulltime job ($12 an hour). These are VERY rough numbers, and they don't calculate Steam sales or anything else (SR2, Aero Effect, anything).
Just some interesting stuff I found.
Edit: check the pinned comment for some things that were not taken into account.
Edit 2: 300,000 is my conservative estimate, what with the pirate accounts and accounts that don't have a game associated with them.
Alt accounts
Bots
People who pirated the game
People why got the game but didn't make an account.
People who got all games Jundroo made
This post is so inaccurate its almost blasphemy.
If you want to be relevant as a player, focus on making good crafts, rather than spewing bs.
Don't be a Bogdanx
I decided to collect the things this calculation doesn't take into account:
- pirates: a large part of the community didn't actually buy the game.
- alt accounts: you mentioned that there are approx. 300k users, but dont forget the fact that quite many users have at least one but sometimes two or three or even more alt accounts
- multiple purchases: another thing that should be counted is the fact that some might purchased the game on multiple platforms. I personally bought it on PC and Android as well.
- bots: there is a huge number of bots on the website, since registering to the website is not connected to actually owning the game, so there are a lot of bots that advertise malware and scams.
- The assumption of everyone buying it for 6$ is a bit rough as well: In the past 5 years, I've seen the game being on sale on Steam several times and even saw it on at least three occasions being sold for just 1$ on some online video game stores (legit ones, not shady ones).
- Banned and left users: They are probably a small portion of the community, but it should also be accounted that there are users who bought the game but their website accounts were temp- or perma banned. There are also those people who bought the game and left the website (and deleted their accs) by their own will.
- Non registered users: Also a probably small group are the people who bought the game but they didn't register a user on the website
I meant no harm by this, the post is still an interesting calculation, I just wanted to add some additional information to it. :)
@Kittyhawk208
spewing bs is what i do best ; )
A lot of people who buy SimplePlanes don't make an account on the website
@Walvis I did notice that when I was (very inaccurately) counting the users. I suspect that is mainly vr and bot accounts.
"There are approximately 300,000 users on the site."
There are exactly 453024 users at the time of writing. This is the last page of users at this time.
Fun fact: even if you got only a single point on the website, you still have more points than 91,1% of players.
simps
@Kittyhawk208 this was never meant to be completely accurate, it's just a very very rough calculation. This also doesn't take server costs into consideration, which Jundroo has said cost them more than office space every month. I may be a relatively new user, but I do pay attention to the site and I am experienced enough to have a (rather vague) idea of how everything works.
@BMilan yeah, I make zero assumptions that my calculations are correct. Without official statistics from the app stores that SP is sold in, a rough estimation is about all I can do.
@Dragoranos at least 25%
Listen kid. You joined 7 months ago. Please Please do more research. Better yet just stop. There's alot of stuff that has gone on and still goes on thatyou don't know about that has effected your data.
What about pirates, it is certain that they represent a portion of SP
@phrongus I think I miscounted the players per page when I ran my calculation
simle plan
there are 452,789 users on sp.com, just counted
How many users are bots?
Boy, a good half of the users just registered on the site, some others simply downloaded the apk from the sites. Look at the number of users in SR2. They are many times less. If the profit from the SP would be so great, then the developers would simply "milk" the game to the last cent.
