Constantly watching the top of the best assemblies, there will always be replicas in 80-90%. Fictitious assemblies are about 10-20%.
Does anyone know the reason why replicas are so much more popular than fictional assemblies?

because most good players make replicas, so there's more good replicas than fictional planes.
also, people saying that replicas are easier to make than fictionals, most of you aren't good to building neither one or the other.
replicas ask for so much more precisions and organization, they are often more impressive to see when executed right.
@FeatherWing I do the same too lol, although it’s mainly just to get the proportions right
replicas don't need all that much creativity I feel because there's blueprints and stuff to work off of as to where fictional builds require more planning and more thought processing in order to build and not only that but challenges mostly go for replica builds but still encourage fiction builds but mainly replicas and when you have a challenge that super popular like ths MSFS challenge or a replica challenge that's also going to boost the numbers of replicas to fictional builds

I'm an outlier then. I've never once made a replica in my life and I can make decent fictional planes in my opinion.
I guess it helps my method involves taking design inspiration from a similar aircraft to what my idea looks like.

Because those who can make realistic fictional planes, are those who have already mastered replicas (and have high creativity/imagination).
(For me, I usually make fictional planes, but I know how to build replicas, I just choose not to)

its hard to make a fictitious build seem realistic. plus replicas are super recognisable, and much easier to build

That, plus replicas are a lot easier to get references for (and to make something that "looks right"; I've tried doing a few made-up ones and they always just end up looking strange).
@CL125 true, I have a hard time coming up with fictional planes, so that’s why I stick with replicas
My guess is that most people will look at an F-15 and a custom plane, see the custom plane as some weird bootleg and download the F-15.
