So MrSilverWolf made a forum post talking about the autotag list, but there seemed to be confusion about what it meant. Let me just break it down. I will aim to keep this clear of bias or anything, I'm just explaining what I saw.
It's fine to tag people. Teasers are fine, and if someone asks to be tagged, then it's fine to oblige.
Autotags are fine to some extent. Tagging a few people on stuff with their consent is fine, and there are good reasons that someone would ask to be autotagged. Stuff like announcing a new teaser, giving certain people beta access to ongoing projects, etc. Autotagging is not fine when you're tagging large amounts of people just so they can see your creation. This is for a few reasons:
- It makes comment sections seem a bit spammy.
- It is essentially point farming, as tagging large numbers of people virtually guarantees large numbers of upvotes, which leads into
- the mods have no realistic way to check and see if someone requested a tag. This means if somebody is spamming unsolicited tags, there's not much of a way for the mods to know if that's true.
In conclusion, tagging is a bit of a gray area in the rules. For now, it's best to follow somebody instead of asking to be on an autotag list. I know using the jet stream is a bit unnatural to some, but it is a change we'll have to get used to now that this announcement has been made.
tldr: the following & jetstream system solves all of the problems with this lmao
so what if you miss a few builds, the solution is present already
also the whole point of a spotlight is to put it into your followers' jet stream, so by tagging people then its kinda like busted idk
@FishbedFive nah I use it on a regular basis.
If nobody care's about the jet stream, why do I have 100+ followers?
people who use the jetstream: 5
T
@HuskyDynamics01 lol the peeps with 60,000 things in their jet stream
SP users when a mod tells them to use the website feature specifically designed to do what they're not using it to do
@Kangy yes
My SWL-120 has 39 tag comment groups (3 tags per comment) because noting down every request on 2 years of teasers just does that lol
@ToeTips idk I don't personally have a problem with the tag lists thing but oh well
@32
Okay, well only forum posts, particularly teasers. And I follow you too, so no harm no foul (I think? Not sure I'm using that right).
You're right.
It does.
@Graingy ah yes
SP.com revolves around you.
@Randomperson
@ToeTips couldn't hurt probably :(
Oh well, at least I'm one of your followers so I'll still see your builds
But I'm not random!
I'm the main character!
Oh.
@Graingy @Graingy @Graingy

@Graingy @Graingy @Graingy
Quick! Tag random people on this!
Sigh, does this mean I need to let go of my auto tag? Maybe do the same thing RCP did with only tagging for forum posts? And maybe add ghost tagging to address the spamming thing?
Oh
