How fuel inefficient are engines in SimplePlanes?

35.8k Graingy  5 months ago

As far as I know engines in SP are horribly inefficient.
The quest is, how inefficient?
How much fuel should these engines use? Just how much range are we losing compared to what we should be getting?

    The rates are here
The comment says gallons/sec, but I think it's more likely liters/sec, considering SP's track record of using metric for other XML values (meters, m/s)

@V Yeah, I discovered that on accident.
Shame it can't be done without affecting noise/exhaust scale, or in the case of the big engine, nozzle size.

You can change how much fuel they use by decreasing the max input and increasing engine multiplyer. Set max input to 0.5 and power multiplyer to 2 to double the fuel efficiency

@TheMouse Well considering he's a matter god he kinda is the fuel.
Ever seen fuel flow up? Creepy, let me tell you.
That or the robot guy. He's just strong.
I've also seen possessed soda. I would not recommend drinking it.

@MrSilverWolf so you're saying the jet engines would dry up our fighters in mere seconds

The prop engines set to corresponding lycoming and continentals burn what they would in an hour in a minute

    @ReinMcDeer Thanks!
I think it's linear between engines with thrust, though I'm too lazy to do math.

@BYardley Also absurdly powerful. The "afterburning" turbofan is like twice as powerful as a similar looking engine.
150kn dry (I don't believe afterburner is actually simulated), vs like 70 for the F-15's.

So true they're ridiculously fuel unefficient.
