Fun tip, sometimes you don't want them all on or all off, but mixed together, usually if you're not building normal planes. (Maybe i should write a post about how smoothing works, and some tricks)

It smoothes the corners of the block, when they are connected to eachother. You can make much more rounded curves like this.
The purpose of that button is to make the fuselage looks smooth when connected to eachother
